my response was a business owner. I loved the idea of being in control of my own destiny. I had no idea at the time what that business would be. I knew I needed to attend post-secondary but had no idea what I wanted to do. I chose to take my legal assistant diploma because it offered 100% job placement. I had heard of people going to college and university and then couldn’t get a job. I knew I needed a job and to make more than minimum wage. I’m a realist! After 13 years in varying legal assistant/paralegal roles, I was still driven for more.

We spent much of my childhood moving around. I didn’t mind that much as moving was a new adventure and each home had its pros and cons. Wherever we were, we made the best of it. As an adult though, homeownership was very much something I wanted. There seemed to be a sense of pride and accomplishment in owning a home. Owning a home felt secure, it’s yours, and you can make it your own.

Investing in Real Estate, seemed like the opportunity to get ahead in this life. When my husband and I purchased our first home, we were conservative. We didn’t want to over-extend ourselves. But, it was more clear as time went on that we wanted a bit more space, a more private backyard, and a larger garage.

Growing up, much of my family didn’t own their own homes

After a few years in the business, my Realtor® uncle discovered me on Ancestory.com. Later I learned that my biological father and one of my other uncles were homebuilders. Only an hour away no less. It was clear then that my draw to this business may have been destined after all.
